01

The durable foundation

AI Overviews and AI Mode change how answers are assembled, but Google’s published guidance still begins with the same foundation: make pages crawlable, technically accessible, useful to people, and clear about who created the content.

There is no special AI-search markup that replaces good SEO. Structured data should describe what visitors can already see, while internal links should make related expertise easy to discover.

02

What should change

Teams should write for decisions, not word counts. Lead with a direct answer, explain the reasoning, show first-hand context, and cite the primary source behind important claims. This structure serves conventional search, answer engines, and readers at once.

Measurement also needs nuance. Track qualified visits, assisted conversions, branded demand, and the queries that expose genuine customer questions—not only raw clicks.

Frequently asked questions

Does AI search make SEO obsolete?
